Unlimited Squirrels: I Lost My Tooth! book

This post is sponsored by Disney Book Group.  As always, I never post content that I can’t stand behind.

It’s Fall ya’ll and we are so excited!  Ok, so maybe only I am excited, but Fall is my absolute favorite season.  I woke up this morning and it actually felt like the season we are in which is a rare thing for the south.  It was nice to drink my coffee on the porch and smell the crisp leaf smell in the air.

Just in time for Fall, Mo Willems has a brand new book (you know how we are such a fan of his) and we have a simple and fun acorn cookie to go along with it!  Unlimited Squirrels: I Lost My Tooth! is an exciting book for young readers that incorporates Mo Willems simple pictures and engaging dialogue between characters.  The ideas and general themes of the book are ones that you will appreciate as a parent and your young reader will relate to.

Unlimited Squirrels: I Lost My Tooth! book review

Not only does Unlimited Squirrels: I Lost My Tooth! talk about losing a tooth, but it incorporates feelings as well as scientific facts.  Each squirrel holds a different job in the book and they tell you all about it in fun and exciting ways.  Davis is in second grade and his reading level is definitely above this book, however, he finds it exciting and has been reading it over and over.  He especially appreciates the “corny jokes” that are scattered throughout.

So, to get you even more excited about this brand new Mo Willems book and Fall in general, we decided to share with you one of our fun cookie ideas!  You will see variations of this all over the place, but we just like to keep it simple.

Simple Acorn Cookies Recipe

Acorn Cookies

Supplies Needed:

  • bag of mini peanut butter sandwich cookies (if you have an allergy use a different light colored round cookie)
  • bag of regular chocolate candy drops
  • bag of mini chocolate chips (we used milk chocolate)
  • cookie or decorating icing in brown or black

Instructions:

  1. If you are using peanut butter sandwich cookies, you will need to pull apart the cookie and use the side that has the most peanut butter and press the chocolate candy drop on.  This will create the top of the acorn (cookie) and the nut part of the acorn (chocolate candy drop).
  2. Using your icing, place a tiny dot on the middle of the cookie.
  3. Push a mini chocolate chip into the icing to create the stem of the acorn.
  4. Enjoy

*If you are like me and don’t want to waste the other side of the sandwich cookie, simply use the icing to attach the cookie to the chocolate candy drop.

I would love to hear what some of your favorite Fall treats, snacks and books are!  This little cookie snack and Unlimited Squirrels: I Lost My Tooth! go together perfectly.  An activity like this one is the perfect idea to help your child become excited about reading!
